{"id":364,"date":"2014-09-30T09:26:12","date_gmt":"2014-09-30T07:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/z-software.net\/site\/?p=364"},"modified":"2014-09-23T10:32:52","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T08:32:52","slug":"about-nicolas-flamel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/z-software.net\/site\/2014\/09\/about-nicolas-flamel\/","title":{"rendered":"About: Nicolas Flamel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Like mentioned in our first entry about \u201eHistory in Letters &#8211; The Eternal Alchemist\u201c, the history (and legends) about Flamel turned out to be very interesting for us.<br \/>\nAfter taking a look at the catacombs of Paris, our initial starting point of our idea for an adventure game, and finding out more and more about Flamel we were intrigued to use him in our game.<\/p>\n<p>Many people might know Flamel from <em>Harry Potter and The Philosopher&#8217;s Stone<\/em>, where Flamel is actually a wizard too and owner of The Philosopher\u2019s Stone, from which an elixir of life can be extracted.<br \/>\nTruth is that in the fourteenth\/fifteenth century Nicolas Flamel actually lived, but the true Flamel was most likely a lot less interesting \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Flamel was probably born 1330 in Pontoise and died 1418 in Paris (some sources say 1413).<br \/>\nHe was a scrivener and manuscript-seller and was married to a woman named Perenelle, who had been already married twice and brought along the wealth of these two husbands into their relationship.<br \/>\nWhile Flamel was definitely well off, since he and his wife owned several properties and were able to give money to churches and commission art regularly, he was not as rich as many legends make him out to be.<\/p>\n<p>So, how did Flamel turn into this \u201cperson\u201d many of us know nowadays?<br \/>\nThe person who reached immortality through the Philosopher\u2019s Stone and was also able to turn base metals into gold?<br \/>\nTruth is that there are no real sources hinting at Flamel having an interest in alchemy, as in actual documents from himself like his (genuine) last will.<br \/>\nHowever, during the seventeenth century a book appeared which described Flamel\u2019s journey to \u201cfind\u201d the Philosopher\u2019s Stone.<br \/>\nAccording to this book Flamel had obtained a mysterious book he tried to decipher for years, after he finally managed this he found a way to create the stone and to produce gold from base metal.<br \/>\nBefore there were already cases of people using Flamel\u2019s name in alchemical texts, but this one actually described his ways as an alchemist.<br \/>\nDuring the years more legends were added on top of this, even though back then several people already didn\u2019t believe the stories to be true, and nowadays Flamel is for many the \u201cfather\u201d of alchemy and some people still claim that he\u2019s alive, together with his wife.<\/p>\n<p>While a lot of the \u201cinformation\u201c that is out there about Flamel is most likely not true he\u2019s still a very fascinating topic for us and hopefully also for our players.<br \/>\nIf you want to find out more about Flamel I highly advise you to take a look at the many websites out there who try to roll up the legends about him, it\u2019s worth a read \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/z-software.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/diary01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-538\" title=\"diary01\" src=\"http:\/\/z-software.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/diary01-300x261.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"261\" data-wp-pid=\"538\" srcset=\"https:\/\/z-software.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/diary01-300x261.png 300w, https:\/\/z-software.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/diary01-344x300.png 344w, https:\/\/z-software.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/diary01.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like mentioned in our first entry about \u201eHistory in Letters &#8211; The Eternal Alchemist\u201c, the history (and legends) about Flamel turned out to be very interesting for us.
